Mexico … So … Close!

We leave on the 3rd!!!! Yey!!!!!

I’m feeling soooooo overwhelmed by homework this week it’s unbelievable. I’m currently trying to write a paper whose purpose is to compare and contrast two nursing theories. Yep, nursing theories! In itself, this would not be too difficult, but we’re using a framework for the critique that is not very clearly laid out (surprise, surprise) so I’m a bit lost =(

No knitting to show. I’m making good progress on Brad’s hat, but I’m far too lazy today to get the camera out and post a pic!

Ummmm …. anything else? No? Perfect!

Snow.

Yep! We’ve got it now!!

Can I just say that it’s quite difficult to balance the “not-a-target-for-a-rapist” head up walk (thanks for all those chain emails everyone … now I’m paranoid) with the “snow-blowing-in-my-face-and-in-my-eyes” head down walk. I’m so confused! LOL

Today we’re going to look at a house with some friend, D & C (maybe I should put C & D. D&Cs are sad.) We’re thinking of buying a place together, so we’re gonna start checking out some places in the area and see if we can find something that suits us!! Should be fun.

Bonjour, tout le monde!

C’est ma premiere poste pour 10 jours! Q’est-ce-que c’est? Je m’excuse, c’est l’ecole qui a m’attention! Ah, j’aime le francais!

So anyways, I’ve been gone a while again. I’ve started my new clinical placement on a psychiatric floor, and it’s quite fascinating! I’m definitely enjoying my learning experience. My tutor?? Not so much! BUT, she’s got a medical problem, and might have to go get surgery (recovery is 5 weeks), so we might actually get another tutor, which would make the experience that much better!!!

I finished the hat – but it’s kinda crappy! Because I picked up stiches on the cast-on edge and knit down, the bind off edge (which is apparently always tight) is at the bottom where it NEEDS to stretch the most, so it doesn’t stretch a whole lot and doens’t fit over my head very well. Oh well. Here’s a pic:

So, I’ve started Brad’s hat, but haven’t got very far – I haven’t had much time to work on it. It would probably only take me an evening or two though, so I really want to get it done! I’m having visions of needing more yarn though *cringe* I hope not cuz I bought it at a special yarn store when a friend took me, so I really don’t have much of a way to get there – and it’s expensive yarn. C’mon one ball!

Since I showed you all a pic of our little boy, Grissom, I’d like to show you our little girl, Lily:

Um … I’m trying to think of something interesting to write, and I’ve. Got. Nothing. Really, I’m trying to procrastinate from starting all my homework. Due to **, I’ve got to hand in two major assignments a week before they’re really due, and I need to start researching them in order to begin them. It just seems too early in the term to be starting 3000 word papers!! WHY??!?!?!? *sobs uncontrollably*

** MEXICO COUNTDOWN: 17 days! We’re going for my oldest sister’s wedding, and we’re getting really excited! Our passports should be arriving soon, we’ve bought our luggage, and I’ve gotta find some long-sleeved cotton or linen shirts so I don’t get horribly burnt while we’re there.

Allergic Rhinocerous

Before I start, I will apologize for it being so long since a post!! I really meant to update sooner, I just have been crazy busy! But enough excuses! We all know how much good those do.

I’ll start with an update on my health. I went for a crazy amount of testing on January 2, and was diagnosed with allergic rhinitis – apparently I’m allergic to mould (says the allergy tests) and I maybe-might-have-borderline-gray-area asthma (but the immunologist says that the pulmonary changes are more likely to do with the upper airway inflammation). When I was telling people at work, one guy overheard and said, “Allergic to rhinocerous?? It’s a good thing you live in Canada, then!!”

What does this mean to me?

1. The reason I touch my face a lot and rub the tip of my nose is cuz of my allergy!
2. I am currently taking a corticosteroid nasal spray to clear up the inflammation.
3. I still have eczema.
4. I can’t eat mould any more or let it grow unchecked around the apartment =(
5. The chemical at work was causing a worsening of my symptoms because it’s an irritant.
6. I have to wear a Darth Vader mask at work when I disinfect until the inflammation’s gone (“What is thy bidding, my master?”)
7. I don’t need to find a new job =)
8. The mould season this year is super long because of the not-so-hot summer and the prolonged damp weather – snow kills the mould … 11 degrees and rainy doesn’t do such a good job.
9. Not everyone’s nose is runny in the mornings – LOL I felt like such a tool when the doctor was discussing my symptoms and asked me, after I said I had a nose than ran about as much as everyone else’s, whether or not everyone else’s actually ran!! Apparently they don’t!
10. My childhood nosebleeds are one symptom of this problem – why it wasn’t diagnosed way back then is beyond me!

OOooh. Lists are fun!

School started on Wednesday. One of my tutors is crazy, one is wishy-washy, and one’s really nice. I’m sure there’ll be lots more on this later!

Here’s a pic of my hat!

When I finished it, it was about 2″ too short (I knew I should have listened to my gut!!) so I had to learn to pick up stiches from the cast-on edge and knit in the round with double-pointed needles (DPNs). It wasn’t too bad, overall, and I should have it done tonight – only maybe an hour or so of work!! Then on to ….

A hat for hubby made of this yarn:

It’s 75% wool and 25% alpaca and looks really nice to knit with – I’m planning to knit the whole thing in the round with my DPNs, so I’ll be able to make it as long as I like!! I think our little boy, Grissom, likes it too!
