randomness: Giving Thanks

Heehee … apparently this meme is American, since it’s their Thanksgiving this week. That’s okay though, I’m playing anyways =)

week of November 18: Giving Thanks

With Turkey Day so near, lets blog about it!

How do you celebrate Thanksgiving? Do you cook or go out to eat?

Before our wedding, we normally did Thanksgiving dinner with my family on Sunday and with Brad’s on Monday. Last year, because we got married Thanksgiving weekend, we ate at the Inn (it was delicious food!). This year, we didn’t eat Thanksgiving dinner at all, sadly.

What has been the best Thanksgiving for you? The worst?

I think the best was last year because of the wedding, although this year was pretty awesome because we found out about our little bean =) I don’t believe I’ve had a ‘worst’.

What are you thankful for?

First and foremost, God! That He loves me and cares for me and wants to have a relationship with me. Second, for my loving husband who I am LOVING spending my life with!! Third, for the miracle of life and that our baby is growing in my womb … I can’t wait to meet him/her. Also, for my family who is so supportive of our choices (even when they don’t agree). And I’m always thankful that we have the ability to go to church freely and go to school, and that we have enough money to put food on our table and a rook over our heads.

Any special traditions you do?

From now on, we’ll probably go away for Thanksgiving, since it’s our anniversary. We decided this year to try and visit a new B&B somewhere in Ontario every year. Hopefully, though, the next years will include turkey =)

an extra sidedish this week:

cranberry sauce or gravy?

Gravy all the way.

white meat or dark?

White meat – especially if it’s my mom’s. She makes the most fabulous turkey and NONE of it is dry.

yams, with or without marshmallows?

We don’t do yams often, but I’m going to say without.

stuffing or no stuffing?

Oh, the delicious stuffing … *drools*

pumpkin pie or apple pie?

Pumpkin. I’m so sad that I didn’t get ANY!!!

till next time…Happy Thanksgiving!

Randomness: Do You Prefer …?

randomness…feed your mind and your blog

week of sept 23: do you prefer…

 1. day or night? Daytime …I used to be more a night owl, but 2.5 years of a job where I normally start at 6:30 AM has squashed that out of me. Now I have a hard time staying up past 11 or 12 PM!
 2. chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate 100%!
 3. coffee or tea? Tea. I love me some coffee but my intestines don’t like it anymore =( I love Earl or Lady Grey or specialty teas.
 4. renting a movie and staying home or going out to the theater? Hmm … depends on the movie. Action? Theatre. Thriller? Home. Fantasy? Theatre. Romance? Home.
 5. regular books or audio books? Regular books regularly. If I’m working on a knitting project, however, I love audiobooks!
 6. driving to a faroff destination or just taking an airplane? I honestly don’t know! I haven’t been on a long road trip since grade five. I love flying though! Maybe if Brad and I ever take a long road trip I can let you know whether I preferred it over flying.
 7. hamburger or hotdogs? Homemade hamburgers beat out a hotdog any day!
 8. listening to music or watching tv? I love watching tv, but we haven’t gotten any channels in almost 2 years!
 9. Desperate Housewives or Survivor? Neither (see above)
 10. homecooked meal or fancy restaurant? Fancy restaurant, hands down! I love homecooked meals (like my Mom’s beautiful turkey dinners … *drool*), but going out to a fancy restaurant is great too, because I eat things that I wouldn’t normally get in a homecooked meal – like grilled salmon (my fav)! We are in love with a small bistro within walking distance of our place called Amuse-Bouche (it’s on Locke St.). Phenomenal!

till next time…

Randomness: Back to School!

With summer nearly over, most of us are getting ready to go back to school. Whether you are getting your kids ready or yourself, it’s always a busy time. So lets have a few back to school questions.
Take your seats please and listen up or you’ll get detention!

1. As a kid, how did you feel about going back to school?

LOVED it! I was always super bored by the end of summer and really looking forward to going back.

If you go now, how do you feel about it?

I’m so sick of school, it’s not even funny! This year makes year number six of my university career! I’m ready to be done, and thus, and ready to be back at it.

2. How do you/did you prepare for going back?

Now I don’t do a whole lot. The only thing would be to buy an agenda I really really like – I’ve gotta love it or I won’t use it!

When I was a kid though, we would do a bunch of back-to-school shopping. We would take a trip to Lime Ridge Mall (about a 45 minute drive from my home town) for all of our new clothes, and then we would go to the local K-Mart for our school supplies. I kid you not, I would spend hours sitting and taking the tags off everything and putting the paper in the binders and filling up my pencil case and sharpening my coloured pencils. I would totally do that now if I got all those things =)

3. Ever had a crush on a classmate or teacher? Who was it?

I won’t bother to regale you with the huuuuuuuge list of boys I had crushes on in elementary and high school. I was completely boy crazy. However, I did have a crush on my grade 9 History teacher, Mr. Drumm. And a teensy crush on my grade 12 English teach, Mr. Malbeouf.

4. What is/was your fav school subject?

Was? English and Biology. Now? What was the question again?

5. What’s the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in school?

Ummm . . . a girl once flipped up my kilt in grade 10. The ensuing holding-up-of-the-girl-by-her-throat-against-the-lockers was not so pretty, and I think the encounter was more embarrassing for her than for me!

6. What did you like better, grade school or high school?

Oooh. Hard one. I think I liked high school better, though.

till next time … randomness … feed your mind and your blog.

randomness: Harry Potter Mania

randomness…feed your mind and your blog

week of July 29: harry potter maniaOK, so I’ve been hooked on Harry Potter books
like so many others and this week’s meme will be about ‘The Boy Who Lived’
So do tell, are you hooked on Harry Potter too?
Do you prefer the books or the movies?
Have you read all the books yet?
Do you plan to?

till next time…

So do tell, are you hooked on Harry Potter too?

Oh, yes! When the first movie came out, I’d never even heard of the series (actually, someone told me the first book came out 10 years ago – I would have been 14 … how did I not hear about it??)

Do you prefer the books or the movies?

Mmm. Hard choice. I think I’ll have to say the books! It was definitely the movies that got me hooked, though, and they’re truly fantastic adaptations! I really do love the visual excitement that the movies give, though. And I love the cast – every cast member plays his/her character perfectly! I especially love Luna Lovegood in the latest movie. She’s hysterical!

Have you read all the books yet?

Thanks to my big sis, yes, I have! Thanks, Jenny!!

Randomness: Vacationing

randomness…feed your mind and your blog

week of July 8: Vacationing

I’ll be going on vacation next week, so that inspires this weeks meme:

1. What is your favorite vacation spot? Hmmm … I’m not sure I’ve been on enough “vacations” to say. It depends on what type of vacation it is – sight-seeing or relaxing. For relaxing, Mexico was FABULOUS. For sight-seeing, Europe all the way!

2. Would you rather drive or fly? I heart flying. It depends where it is though, and how long I’ve got, I think. If Brad and I were going to BC, for example, and we had a few weeks, I’d love to drive. I truly enjoy car trips =)

3. Have you ever been on a cruise? Would you want to go on one? Nope, I’ve never been on a cruise, and I’m not entirely sure I’d ever want to. The titanic thing kinda gives me the heebie jeebies.

4. What has been your best/worst vacation? Best – Mexico/Europe. Worst – ummm … I don’t think I’ve ever been on a bad one!

5. How long do you think is long enough for a vacation? At least a week. Our honeymoon was great, though, and it was only 2 days =)

6. Do you spend alot of money while on vacation? I like to think I don’t. No, I don’t think so. Do you buy alot of souvenieres? We generally buy one thing to remember the vacation by. ie. honeymoon – we bought some beautiful coasters (you need to see them to understand), Mexico – we bought a Mayan-made chess set, etc. What’s the coolest one you’ve gotten? Hmmm … I think the chess set! We need to set it up and put it on display though! (as an aside, I used to collect shot glasses and had one from tonnes of places!! I don’t know where they are now, though, I haven’t seen them since we moved from Port Dover!)

7. If money were no object, where would you go on vacation? The South of France. Or Italy.

till next time…

Randomness: Would you rather …

Happy Canada Day to all! It’s Canada’s 140th birthday today! Brad and I will be attending a “wedding fiesta” for some friends who were married in May in Mexico. Wuhoo!!

randomness…feed your mind and your blog

week of July 1: would you rather….

1. jump out of a plane or bungee jump?

I would rather jump out of a plane. Bungee jumping, in my humble opinion, looks kind of neck-snappish, not to mention that if they miscalculated the rope length and smash you against the ground or it breaks … you get the picture. Sky diving, however, really only two things can go wrong: the plane breaks and crashes, or your parachute doesn’t work. Either way, at least you’ve got a nice view! And you’d probably be dead before you hit the ground!

2. be stranded on a deserted island alone or be stranded with someone you hate?

Alone. Hands down. I could deal with the loneliness and, a la Tom Hanks in castaway, I would totally find an inanimate object to keep me company.

3. eat fried worms or eat chocolate covered bugs?

Chocolate covered bugs.

4. trip and fall in front of your co-workers or trip and fall in front of someone you have a crush on?

Well, I’ve tripped and fallen in front of my husband enough when we were dating that I’ll go for that one. Although I’ve tripped in front of enough co-workers too …

5. shave your head bald or die your hair purple?

Purple. I think I’d look awfully silly bald.

6. not be able to talk or not be able to stop talking?

Not be able to talk. Sometimes I talk too much now and say, “Self! Stop talking!” I think it would get old awfully quick for *me* not to be able to stop talking! I’d learn sign language =)

7. always be cold or always be hot?

As much as I begrudge being constantly cold, I still think it’s better to have the option to put on a sweater than it is to have to shed layers =) I’ll go with always cold! (plus, if I were always hot, I’d be forever sweating!)
