Another year over …

And I’m thiiiiis close to being four months pregnant! What a wonderful end to a whirlwind of a year!

Things started off with a trip to Mexico for my big sister Jenn’s wedding in February, our week-long New York trip, her baby born in August, finding out about our OWN baby in October (!!), celebrating our first anniversary, buying a house later that month, my grandma breaking her hip, my aunt being diagnosed with breast cancer (please continue to pray … her chemo regimen is beginning soon …), Brad finishing school for good, my big sister Becky getting a great new job, and yeah.

So I was 15 weeks on Friday – our baby now has developed taste-buds and my amniotic fluid tastes like whatever I’ve eaten =) The baby can also sense light and (since next week he/she can hear things on the outside of my body) hear what’s going on inside my body. I’ve had a couple moments in the last couple days of “was that the baby moving?” But I’m not 100% sure yet.

Here’s my belly now =) It’s definitely growing!

15 Weeks 1

15 Weeks 2

It’s pooching out now even when I lay down! (it would disappear when I laid down before) And my belly button is rapidly becoming more shallow! The uterus hits the belly button at about 20 weeks, and I’m almost 16, so it’s got 4 cm to go before overtaking my former umbilical cord attachment site – which, by the way, isn’t centered.

I think I’ve gained about 10 lbs now, which all the books say is a normal gain for this stage. I’m hoping to start back on my healthy eating bandwagon in the New Year now that my food aversions are mostly gone … although I still can’t even think about chicken breast!

I’ll update with Christmas pics tomorrow =)

14 Weeks (the second)

I wasn’t going to post a belly pic … but it looks like it’s grown a lot! So I decided to anyways =) I took this pic on Thursday night before Brad and I went to his work’s Christmas party!

14 Weeks … again

Still haven’t really felt the baby move … I’m trying to be patient, though, since this IS my first pregnancy, and most first-time mamas don’t feel their babies until 18 – 22 weeks. C’mon, baby! Move for mama!

the story of stuff

My brother-in-law sent Brad a link to video last week called The Story of Stuff. It’s a fascinating look at the extraction, production, distribution, consumption, and disposal of goods in our society. It’s 20 minutes long, but well worth it – watch the first few minutes and if you don’t have time just now, bookmark it and come back to it! I’m telling you – it’s good a tonne of great information!

When watch it, leave a comment and let me know what you think!

Heartbeat!! YAY!

Window Heart

The picture seemed appropriate! We had a massive snow-dump on Sunday, and I walked into our room in the early afternoon and saw a heart in snow on the outside of our window. How beautiful! It was a great reminder of how much God loves us =)

baby bump + baby sweater

14 weeks!! WUHOO! Now, according to everybody, I’m in my second trimester, which is pretty darned exciting! And only two more sleeps till I get to hear our wee one’s heartbeat. I’m going to bring the camera with because it records sounds so Brad can hear it! (And if I can figure out how to upload sound files, you all can, too!) So this week our baby’s a little bigger than a lemon, and by the end will be 4 – 4.5 inches crown-to-rump (that’s actually pretty big, since that’s minus the legs!!). Apparently he/she is making lots of cute faces (due to electrical brain impulses) and can even suck his/her thumb!! I’m getting impatient trying to see if I can feel the baby moving. Not yet … but hopefully soon!!

#1 thing not to say …

… to a probably self-conscious “big-boned” grade 7 boy when he says that he was going to go as a girl for Hallowe’en but didn’t because he’s ‘bigger’.

And what did the socially-awkward youth group leader let fall out of her mouth?

“Why not? There’s fat girls!” Followed closely by, “Oh my goodness, I didn’t mean it like that.”

Oh. The horrors.

13 Weeks!

Wow – I’m 1/3 of the way there!!! One of my pregnancy books says I’m done my first trimester, two say this is my last week of it, and one makes absolutely no mention of trimesters at all. So, safe to say that by Saturday, the first trimester is DEFINITELY over! I’m continuing to feel good, and our baby’s now the size of a lemon or a peach. He/she’s got little fingerprints and his/her eyes are moving into a more “normal” place this week!! WUHOO!

Three months … where has the time gone?

I’m 12 weeks pregnant now … that’s three months, people! This week our baby will grow from lime-sized to peach-sized and will develop reflexes, such as opening and closing it’s hands, making breathing motions, and squinting his/her eyes. Apparently if I poke my uterus, the baby will move in response, I just can’t feel it yet! Two more weeks till I get to hear the heartbeat! Continue reading
